The quest is available from level 19 to Dark Mystic. Varika's trial requires the four seeds of despair, anger, horror, and lunacy.
Walkthrough

Talk to Varika at Altar of Rites and receive Seed of Despair.

Follow the anger branch through Charkeren and hunt Marsh Zombie until the requested Family's Remains are recovered.

Follow the horror branch through Annika and hunt the skeleton targets around School of Dark Arts for the requested bones.

Follow the lunacy branch through Arkenia and complete her collection to obtain Seed of Lunacy.

Return all four seeds to Varika and receive Jewel of Darkness.

Complete the Dark Wizard occupation change with the appropriate grand master at level 20.
